How A Tweeter’s Design Impact The Quality Of Car Audio

A tweeter is a small and compressed speaker that produces high frequency sounds. They make the music flow brilliantly such that the sounds seem to come from the whole space rather than the source only.  There are two major tweeter categories:

  • In-built tweeters – these are incorporated inside the full range speakers
  • Mounted tweeters- They appear separate as components of a speaker system.

When selecting the best tweeters for sale, there are those key areas of concern that need to be considered if you want to achieve a brighter audio experience.

Shapes

  • Cone tweeters
They are highly affordable though they may not distribute the sound better than other designs because of the cheap materials that make them. Cheap materials have less damping effects hence the sound may not be smooth and precise.

  • semi-dome tweeters
They are commonly used in cheaper speakers. The material of a semi-dome tweeter is normally soft and flexible. This makes the tweeters resistant to any kind of damage that results from an over –tightened installation space.

  • Dome tweeters
They give wider sound distribution patterns than the semi-domes.

Materials

  • Synthetic film tweeters
They are humid-proof and light-weight. Because of their small weight, they do not require much power drives; are thus the ideal tweeters for low-powered speaker systems.

  • Textile tweeters
The main material that makes up most textile tweeters is the silk. The tweeters produce a more refined and mellow sound. It is the kind of sound that balances the tone of the music. For greater power handling, silk tweeters are fortified with more stiff materials to increase damping to give smoother and more precise sounds.  If you do not drive in noisy environments or your car’s interior is made of tough plastic, then, silk tweeters should be your best option.

  • Metallic tweeters
Metal tweeters give loud and bright sounds. Aluminium being the commonest material for metal tweeters is light and strong for higher sound frequencies. Metal tweeters are the best choices for noisy driveways

These are the factors that you should consider in tweeters for sale.

Amplifiers Power Ratings And The Selection Of Speakers

Many times, speakers fail; the voice coil overheats and burns, it may even catch fire. In most scenarios, the main cause for this damage is usually the overpowering of speakers. However, warranties do not include this type of damage.

Predominant causes of speaker failure

1. When the amplifier’s power output exceeds the speaker’s power-handling capacity, the voice coil becomes charred and distorted.

2. Distortions that arise from overworking a low-powered amplifier. Clipping occurs, burning the tweeters due to high frequency created.

It is therefore important to understand the relationship between speakers and amplifiers ratings so as to escape the above mentioned catastrophes.

Quick fixes to the risk factors of speaker

  • Overpowering the speakers

This is the case whereby the amps power rating is bigger than what the speaker can handle. This is a common phenomenon in DJ applications whereby the system produces hard bass responses. An attempt to get more bass leads to clipping. The relationship between amplifiers power rating and speaker power rating should not be confused for a linear function. Some people choose a speaker with a power rating that seems to coincide with that of the amplifier: this is wrong because the speaker will be underpowered. A 1200w amplifier must not essentially match with a 1200w-rated speaker.

Solution
In a sound system where the amplifiers are high-rated, choose a speaker program with more than twice the power of the amplifiers. So, for our example of a 1200w amplifier, the corresponding speaker should have a rating of between 2400w and 4800w. The 4800w would provide the best protection

  • Distortions

This is occurs when an amplifier’s power rating is too low to radiate the desired sound volume. When someone tries to get a higher volume, clipping occurs. Excessive distortions can also emanate from other amplifier connections.

Solution

In order to prevent this kind of damage, ensure that the power rating of the amplifier system can suffice the sound system application, that is, the amplifier should give sufficient volume without being coerced to some imbalance.

Understanding the Basics of Buying a Car Amplifier

There are moments when you long for that cranked up volume. The bad thing with most car audio systems is that they come with a lot of ambient noise-When a car is rolling down the highway, there will be a lot of background noise including that of other engines. The head units that are installed in the factories have an amplification level that can only be termed as modest. The more the amount of power the amp that comes with the cassette or CD player delivers, the cleaner the sound that you will get from the speaker. However, it is worth noting that a receiver with a rating of 50 watts doesn’t have clean power of more than 30 watts. This is the reason why the serious mobile listeners ignore the factory-installed amps and instead choose the external amps that are usually very powerful.

Shopping for a 2000w amplifier
If you are searching for the easiest installation which is also the least expensive, a good idea would be to select one single amplifier that will be in a position to power all speakers in the car system. This refers to the channels that are listed on an amp since the single channel is only able to power a single speaker. On top of this, it is advisable to find an amp that contains its own crossover; the circuits usually split music frequencies and this means that the high will go to the speaker’s front and the row will get to the speaker’s rear. This can go a long way in maximizing the speaker’s power delivery and also improve the sound. As you shop, a good idea would be to consider how the speaker will allow you to control the crossover. There are some that make use of rotary controls but others have inset controls that are usually less accessible and may need a screw driver in order to be adjusted.

A good idea would be to select an amp that has one, 2 or 4 channels. However, there will be a need for a channel for each of the speakers and this will soon increase the cost and complexity of the system. In case you are adding a subwoofer to achieve that killer low-end sound, there will be a need for a separate amp. You should bear in mind that each speaker will require one amplification channel. However, the 4-channels are usually the most popular.

Amps don’t come with a wide range of features. However, there are a few that needs consideration. I order to get rid of the thumps & thuds that are not only annoying but can also damage the speakers of your car, it would be a good idea to choose soft-start circuitry.
